Here is what we know:
Jim Dvorak, County Commissioner, Jim Flaiz, Prosecuting Attorney, and Scott Hildenbrand, Sheriff want to take over the Animal Shelter.
The following stories provide a summary of the arguments:
The Animal Shelter is funded by a combination of donations, adoption and redemption fees, and license fees:
Donations: The shelter relies on donations from the community for food, treats, toys, medicine, and veterinary care.
Adoption and redemption fees: The shelter profits from adoptions.
License fees: The shelter receives $13.50 for every $15 license.
The shelter does not receive any general tax funds or county money.
Sheriff Hildenbrand stated in an interview with WKYC: "We can do it cheaper and I know we can be a lot more efficient...".
Here are some of the commendations that the shelter, under the leadership of Matt Granito, has received for their work:
As a dog owner I would question:
What qualifications do the sheriff and deputies have to handle and care for dogs?
What equipment do the sheriff and deputes have to transport dogs?
Will the sheriff take good, kind care of my lost dog when it is found?
Who will get the dog license fees?
What To Do:
Let them know WHY YOU WANT YOUR SHELTER AND YOUR WARDEN TO STAY.
