Beloved Community,
In the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "justice at its best is power connecting everything that stands against love." The events of the past two weeks have called for urgency in raising our voices in protest against policies and the slashing of programs that grievously harm the most vulnerable. Please consider support of the following three time sensitive events this week:
1) Contact Ohio's Congressional members and voice how reduced or eliminated funding and new regulations on grants and loans will slash resources that children, seniors, and the economy rely on. Andrea Pollock's Next Step program and Kate Lodge's A Place 4 Me program rely on this crucial funding.
Ohio's New Republican Senators:
Sen. Bernie Moreno - (202) 224-2315 https://www.moreno.senate.gov/
Sen. Jon Husted - (202) 224-3353 https://www.husted.senate.gov/
Ohio's Key House Members:
Rep. Max Miller, R-District 7 (Ways & Means Committee) - (202) 225-3876
Rep. Warren Davidson, R-District 8 (Financial Services Committee, Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, Chairman) - (202) 225-6205 https://davidson.house.gov/
Rep. Dave Joyce - R-District 14 (Appropriations Committee) - (202) 225-5731
Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-District 3 (Financial Services Committee) - (202) 225-4324
2) Join others in protest outside the ICE detention facility in Chardon (Geauga County Safety Center at 12450 Merritt Road, Chardon) on February 8th from 12pm-3pm to unite against the recent illegal immigration raids that have shaken our community. With over 400,000 individuals detained by ICE each year, many are separated from their families and subjected to inhumane conditions. These raids instill fear and disrupt the lives of countless innocent people. Together, we will raise our voices in solidarity with our brothers and sisters, demanding an end to these unjust practices and advocating for a system that respects the dignity and rights of all individuals.
3) Attend the Resistance Fair February 8th from 1:30p-3:30P at the CH-UH Heights High Cafeteria at 13263 Cedar Road on issue-based activism representing racial justice, reproductive rights, immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, gun safety, healthcare justice, the environment, and more. This gathering of progressive groups is poised to unify, organize and act.
We keep asking, what can we do? How can we resist? How can we act?
In Dr. King's words, "Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the whole staircase."
Speaking truth with power of love,
Community Church of Chesterland
